Character: (AU) Quatre Raberba Winner; to avoid as much confusion, will go by Raberba
Timeline: Three years post Endless Waltz, time in Paradise, two years in another universe, then back to Paradise. (Total of about five years post EW)
Personality: For the most part, Quatre is a very kind hearted young man. He enjoys helping people wherever and however he can. This does not make him a pushover, however. He is determined and stands up for what he believes, and is fiercely relentless in getting what he believes is right and just.
As he also has the intelligence and charisma to manipulate people to his whim, his kindness is a boon. Even in battle he gives his enemies the chance to surrender; he will go as far as apologizing for having to kill them, but he will still get the job done with whatever means necessary. Quatre has a keen mind for tactics and leadership, when he issues an order, people immediately follow it. That is why he only gives orders when absolutely necessary, and only with very good reason. He also only issues orders he himself would follow.
As a master strategist and chess master, Quatre enjoys puzzles that challenge his intelligence. However he also enjoys playing with people; comes with having feline instincts. He never actually hurts them unless they hurt innocents or those he considers his, but they do tend to listen or run scared, never to bother people again. He takes a certain satisfaction when he solves a particularly difficult problem or makes something work just a little smoother on its way to helping people in their lives.
His empathy picks up on other peoples' strong emotions, generally whether he wants it to or not based on the strength, and can influence him if he doesn't have a center.
He loves music; other than reading in front of a fire and drinking tea, music (either playing himself or listening to it) is one of the few ways he relaxes.
However. While all of this still does apply, Quatre has been through a lot between his visits to Paradise, and the two years spent as a Jaeger pilot partnered with Trowa Barton. Not to mention losing said partner, Trowa, to a Kaiju. Due to the close nature of this partnership, more than just piloting a single machine together but mentally linked, and how Trowa died, Quatre's taken a rather big hit to his mental stability.
His brief time in Paradise right after Trowa's death both helped, and hurt him. He's still in a sort of mental flux of severe depression, relief at not being alone, and rejection.
Background:
The Winner family was among the first to leave Earth when the colonies were launched. However, complications arose with births due to unfavorable radiation. While these complications were eventually resolved, some families (like the Winners) retain that defect. As such, children were born using science, into test tubes. This process was a success and allowed the colonies' populations to grow.
Almost two hundred years after the first colony was launched, Quatrine and Zayeed Winner had created twenty nine beautiful and talented daughters. However, Quatrine desperately wanted to give her husband a son, and insisted on going through a natural pregnancy. While this led to her death, Zayeed became the proud father of a son. Quatre Raberba Winner.
Such was the pain of Quatrine's death, and fearing it would hurt his son more than a lie, Zayeed brought Quatre up with the belief he was also a test tube baby. This sprouted resentment in the young boy, causing him to act out in the belief he was worthless. That his father could just grow another son if something happened to him. What slipped his notice was that none of his sisters were werecats like he was.
This attitude continued until he was kidnapped off of a satellite his family owned by a group of men called the Maguenac Corp. Through a rather daring battle where Quatre uncovered the traitor in the group and captured him, then risked his life so the group could escape safely, Quatre grew up a little and found self worth. He decided that even if he was a test tube baby, that wasn't a bad thing.
When Quatre secretly agreed to take on Operation Meteor, a plan originally designed to drop a colony on Earth to get the Earth's governments to leave the colonies alone, it was against his family's pacifist beliefs. He knew that when he left to fight he would disinherit himself, but that it was necessary to fight for his beliefs.
Fortunately for Quatre, at the last minute the plans were changed and the colony was no longer to be dropped on the planet below. His orders were to attack OZ with whatever means necessary. If anyone saw him that was not an ally, he was supposed to kill them. That was one thing that bothered him, but he accepted some things were necessary for the goal.
Throughout the battles Quatre fought in, either solo or paired with others who had the same orders, the other gundam pilots, he kept his nature a secret. All they knew was that he was from a wealthy, prominent family gone rouge from their ideals. He became their strategist, through proving himself and necessity. His empathy was known to them as it was too much of a challenge to hide, but also because it served some use and he knew he could trust them to keep that secret.
Once the war was over and the tentative peace first became evident, Quatre set to work on another end to help build the peace up and make it last. He took over better control of his family's business, stepping in as his birthright of heir. His twenty nine sisters helped where they could, doing a fair bit of travel to make sure the business was running smoothly.
The gundams had to be destroyed, as the peace treaty was calling for full dismantling of arms and the gundams were a prominent symbol of battle and war, at the same time as that of hope. With help, Quatre used some of his resources to send four of the five gundams off into the sun on a disposal unit.
When a year had passed after the initial peace started and a rebellion started, Quatre took the risk and went after the gundams, cursing himself for acting hastily. Fortunately he got to them just in time and diverted them back to Earth for the other pilots, managing to get them back for the finale and recovery of Relena Peacecraft, former Queen of the World and good friend to the pilots.
When peace was achieved once again, the Preventers took on a more stable position as a peacekeeping force for the new regime. He made arrangements with Lady Une, the former right hand of Treize Khushrenada of OZ and former enemy soldier, the current leader of the Preventers, to be on call when his talents were required. When not doing work for Preventers, Quatre kept running his family's business, expanding and rebuilding the worst of the war-torn parts of Earth and the colonies.
While he wasn't often called in, on one such occasion his nature was discovered by the other pilots. The explanation when the situation was resolved wasn't the most pleasant, but it ended well enough and his nature was accepted.
Through Quatre's first stay in Paradise, he made a fair number of friends - including one Odd della Robbia. They became close, though without warning Quatre vanished after a time. Six months later he returned for far too short a time, though no time at all seemed to have passed for him. He got back together with Odd during the two weeks he was back, only to leave again.
This time, he wasn't sent home, but another planet Earth under siege by an alien race the humans there called the Kaiju. They fought these giant beasts with mobile suits similar to the gundams Quatre and his comrade Trowa Barton (who somehow showed up there around the time he did straight from home) were so used to piloting. It seemed natural to join the Jaeger program together, as those mobile suits required two pilots, not just one, and Quatre and Trowa already knew how the other fought.
Years passed and they were a huge success, fighting and living together as if they were one person. Praised as the world's best Jaeger team, they were sent against the biggest Kaiju yet. Unfortunately they miscalculated and Trowa's side of the suit was torn away - with him still in it. Quatre felt every last second of Trowa's life, and how it faded.
He arrived back in Paradise screaming, injured and barely conscious - let alone coherent. Another Quatre arrived to talk him down and get him the medical attention he needed - and the emotional support he needed even more. A few days had things looking a little better, then Quatre decided it would be a good idea to take 'Raberba' over to see Odd to try and cheer him up.
Due to the mash up of him coming and going, Odd had opted to forget 'Raberba', therefore didn't even recognize him beyond being Quatre's 'twin'. 'Raberba' ran, though was still injured when he shifted to his feline form. He ended up hiding out with Heero, though the other pilot didn't know the cat at his door was 'Raberba' until the next day when Quatre came looking, bringing clothes for a 'normal cat' among a few other things only a human would need. 'Raberba' ran again, though couldn't handle another shift so remained in human form.
After that he kept to himself, finding a bolt hole that was close enough that he could easily get food and medical supplies to patch himself back up the best he could. Alone. But at that moment he felt that was the best he could do.
Abilities/Additional Notes: Sand cat Werecat wiki
Pacific Rim world info: Jaeger, Kaiju
First and foremost, Quatre was born a werecat. Being the only naturally born member of his family, he inherited his parents' legacy beyond his appearance and high intelligence. As a werecat, Quatre has two forms: one human, the other a medium sized, blond, short furred tomcat. Even in human form, Quatre's senses are sharper than the average human (this includes abnormal strength for his size and build). Despite when he is in human form, he can be influenced by his more feral side, relying just a touch more on instinct.
He is also empathic, though generally only skims people's emotions to see if they were attempting to be deceptive. He has the ability to influence the emotions of those around him if he focuses hard enough, though he very rarely does so. If he is close enough to someone, distance has no bearing and he can tell if they are in danger.
On to his human abilities. He is a child genius. He is an expert strategist and chess master. As a gundam pilot, this instinctive ability to lead others and utilize their abilities, no matter how varied, at very little warning came in quite handy. Thanks to his intelligence, during his gundam pilot training he learned tactics and strategy, placing him as a very valuable pilot. He is an extremely good leader, encouraging those fighting with him to listen to his ideas and plans. He has superior negotiating skills, and political and business knowledge, also making him very valuable as a pilot.
Giving testimony to his intelligence is the fact he implemented and mastered the ZERO system, a system designed to show its pilot every possible scenario and giving them focus-a feat that only one other mastered to his degree and just two who could stand it for short amounts of time, but not utilize it to real tactical advantage the way Quatre can.
During his training, he became a very good pilot - both mobile suit piloting, and other crafts (eg. Shuttles, cars, trucks, etc). For his physical abilities for piloting, he had to gain more strength than his slim frame would give credit to, as well as endurance. He is also skilled with hand-to-hand fighting and various weapons training. To assist him in case of capture, he was given some immunities to poisons and other such drugs.
